Hello, and hope everyone is enjoying the start of summer!
We’re hosting our final Remedies session of the season before returning in September with a brilliant lineup of artists, leading us into the Folkestone Songwriting Festival 2025 — our 9th year!
We’re honoured to welcome Maiuko, world jazz composer and singer from Mozambique, accompanied by acclaimed bassist Alexander Keen.
MAIUKO
Multi award-winning Mozambican singer-songwriter Maiuko brings a sound entirely her own — blending Afro-Jazz and world blues with African-inspired rhythms and Portuguese melodies, creating a rich and timeless musical language.
Over her career, Maiuko has earned numerous awards including Best Newcomer, Female Performer of the Year, Best Female Voice, Best Uploaded on Get-Out-There, and most recently, Multifaceted Artist.
“Maiuko is blessed with a smoky and powerful voice that defies the limitations of one particular genre.”
— Kevin LeGendre, Echoes Magazine / The Independent
“Mozambican Nu Soul Diva.”
— Time Out
“She oozes soul and has the ability to transform her vocals from husky and sensuous to something altogether more ethereal, almost spiritual.”
— Wax Magazine
Her past performances include prestigious venues and festivals such as Ronnie Scott’s, Southbank Centre, Kings Place, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Pizza Express Soho, Gulbenkian, and The Quarterhouse. Festival appearances include Montreux Jazz Festival, WOMAD, Rye Jazz Festival, Margate Jazz Festival, Herne Bay Jazz Festival, and Folkestone Ethno Jazz Festival, among many others.
Maiuko has collaborated with renowned artists including Max Middleton, Jeff Beck, Chris Difford, Dick Pearce, Noel McCalla, Paul Booth, and Sara Tavares.
Now based in the UK, she’s currently working on a new album with guitarist/double bassist Alexander Keen and pianist Gabriel Keen, alongside other exciting collaborations.
