Folkestone, Kent

the Silent Companions, Neil Bob Herd and the Lab, Blackhouse Hill

Folkestone Songwriting Festival and Lorraine Lucas Music present three great live bands:

A man with a ukelele sings into a brass megaphone - a keyboard player and bass player stand in the background

the Silent Companions

The Silent Companions are a unique mix of dark voodoo music hall  with a line up of Ukulele, Clarinet, wurlitzer style keyboards, double bass and drums

Formed in 2015 from playing together in The Whitstable Fringe, they have since gone on to record two albums and are currently planning to release a series of EP’s.

Their quality songwriting and composition and stage presence are perfect for festivals and having fun. Their song ‘Three Men Can Keep A Secret (If Two Of Them Are Dead)’ featured in Disney’s Anglo American cult TV show ‘What We Do In The Shadows’ , which has suddenly bought International attention.

Neil Bob Herd and the Lab

The Dirty Little Acoustic Band are Scots Singer-Songwriter Neil Bob Herd’s “plugged in” combo.
Following his time as songwriter and guitarist in UK alt bluegrassers The Coal Porters, Neil and the DLab went
on to release a well-received debut album Every Soul a Story in 2020.

“Scots Nick Lowe” (Americana
UK)

“Sharp as a Tack” (Uncut).

The follow up “5 Reel Feature” EP came out April 2024 and a brand
new LP waxing “The Wireless Set” is slated for release in Spring 2026.

Neil & The DLab’s songs combine grit, twang and poetic dexterity. From wry humour to emotional
sucker punch and rich with judicious use of the tremolo pedal. Expect Americana, Rockabilly, and
even a dose of Northern Soul.

“A Poet’s soul & a Rock & Roll Heart” (Rocking Magpie)

“The songs are earthy and muscular” (Louder than War
